The US Embassy in Pakistan announced on Wednesday a major cut in visa appointment wait times across various categories to speed up and improve the efficiency of the visa processing system.
According to an embassy official, visa appointment wait times have been reduced from 440 to 230 days. The decision was taken to make the visa application process easier for Pakistani applicants.
The embassy has taken various steps to speed up the processing of student, business, and family reunion visas to reduce wait times as much as possible.
“We are working diligently to handle the increased demand and facilitate as many applicants as possible,” the official stated.
Previously, the embassy in Islamabad and Karachi processed around 10,000 visa applications per month. The official highlighted that the embassy is continuously trying to enhance its procedures to further reduce wait times.
For those who have already submitted their visa applications, the embassy offers a system for case reviews via email. Each application is assessed individually, and decisions are usually made within three to four working days following the interview.
The official explained that the embassy applies only the standard application fee, which is consistent worldwide. They also pointed out that the previous year set a new record for the number of visa applicants, highlighting a surge in demand for US visas in Pakistan.
