Flood Warning Issued for Rivers in Punjab

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Punjab has issued flood warnings as heavy rainfall continues to affect the region, with significant amounts recorded across various districts over the past 24 hours.

The continuous rain has led to rising water levels in rivers, dams, and streams.

According to the PDMA, districts like Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Bahawalnagar, Kasur, and Sheikhupura have received varying amounts of rainfall, with Rawalpindi recording 88mm, Gujranwala and Bahawalnagar 17mm each, and Kasur and Sheikhupura 11mm each.

This increase in rainfall is contributing to the swelling of water bodies, including rivers, dams, and streams.

The PDMA spokesperson has warned of a potential moderate flood situation in the Indus River in the coming days, issuing an alert for the river’s rising water levels. The rains have already created severe conditions in Rajanpur.

The PDMA has also issued a flood warning for the Indus River in Rajanpur, advising residents to relocate to safer areas with their livestock. The district administration has been instructed to keep all relevant departments on high alert, while Rescue 1122 has been directed to remain vigilant in affected areas.

In Rojhan, there is also a risk of flooding in the Indus River due to ongoing mining activities. The PDMA’s flood warnings emphasize the urgent need for preparedness and safety measures as the monsoon season progresses.

Additionally, the PDMA has issued alerts for potential flooding in rivers connected to the Chenab and Ravi rivers.

In Sialkot, high flood levels have been reported in Nullah Aik, prompting the DG PDMA to instruct the local administration to remain on high alert. The monsoon rains are expected to continue until August 14.

The ongoing heavy rains and rising water levels present significant risks to communities, and authorities are working diligently to manage the situation and provide necessary support to affected areas.
