Two months after the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) launched an updated online portal, its president, Prof. Dr. Rizwan Taj, instructed the IT team to introduce e-certificates for license renewals and Good Standing Certificates.
Prof. Taj emphasized that this initiative aims to provide medical and dental professionals a more efficient and user-friendly experience. “These e-certificates will be issued quickly, minimizing any disruption for doctors,” he informed reporters. Under the new system, license renewals are expected to take 6-7 days, while Good Standing Certificates will be processed in just 1-2 days. He noted that the enhanced digital infrastructure will enable the PMDC to handle up to 300-400 applications per day, significantly improving operational efficiency.
The PMDC president pointed out that the current manual process for license renewals and Good Standing Certificates is both time-consuming and resource-intensive.
He explained that the new digital technology initiative would streamline these processes by replacing manual handling and mailing of hard copies with online submissions, electronic certificate generation, and direct digital delivery, all with enhanced security measures.
Prof. Taj also mentioned that this change would reduce printing and mailing costs, cut down on paper usage, and offer a more convenient, transparent, and secure application process to prevent fraud or forgery. Since the portal’s update in June 2024, the PMDC has received 17,524 renewal applications, with 16,692 completed and issued.
“In the last two months, 5,063 doctors and dentists applied for Good Standing Certificates, with 4,891 successfully issued. These certificates are often required for international practice, job applications, or further education.” Prof. Taj reiterated that once the e-certification system is fully implemented, the processing time for license renewals will be reduced to 6-7 days, and for Good Standing Certificates to just 1-2 days.
