In a significant move, the Sindh education department has decided to terminate school teachers who have been absent from government schools across Karachi without authorization.
This decision aims to improve education standards and ensure that ghost teachers do not continue to receive salaries.
The Sindh education department has instructed District and Taluka Education Officers to submit a final list of such teachers within two days.
Despite repeated warnings, these absconding teachers have failed to contact the relevant authorities, according to the department.
Earlier, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) provided the Education Department with data on teachers residing abroad. Some of these individuals have been drawing salaries for years without attending work, while others have submitted fake medical certificates.
The absconding employees were identified through a joint effort by the Education Department’s monitoring cell and the FIA.
Previously, the Sindh education department dismissed eight ghost teachers in the province. Akbar Leghari, a senior official, confirmed that eight teachers living abroad were removed from their positions after it was discovered they had been receiving salaries for the past two years without performing their duties.
Leghari also mentioned that Taluka education officers across the province are identifying ghost teachers and warned of strict action against them.
