As heavy rains continue to disrupt daily life across the country, the metro bus service in Multan has been suspended due to a burst in a Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) line, a private news channel reported.
The district administration confirmed that the bus isn’t running between BCG Chowk and BZU Station. The service will resume once the WASA line is stabilized and repairs are completed, according to officials.
Multan and other regions of Southern Punjab have been heavily impacted by severe rainfall, leading to widespread flooding. Multan saw a record-breaking 177 millimeters of rain at Chungi No. 9 Disposal Station, surpassing the previous record of 134.5 millimeters set in 1976, according to the WASA.
Following the heavy rainfall, the authority has declared a rain emergency. It has been carrying out extensive drainage operations and providing regular updates to officials, including the Commissioner Multan Division, Deputy Commissioner, and Director General of MDA.
The heavy rainfall has caused multiple power feeders managed by the Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) to trip, resulting in widespread power outages. MEPCO officials have assured that power will be restored as soon as the rain subsides.
Anticipating further rain, the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner have advised WASA officials to stay alert. However, the city’s drainage system struggles to manage the substantial water volume.
