Instagram might be preparing to amplify its musical integration, according to recent findings by mobile developer Alessandro Paluzzi. Paluzzi uncovered evidence of a potential new feature within Instagram’s code: real-time Spotify integration.
This discovery suggests that Instagram users may soon see automatic Notes generated on their profiles based on their Spotify listening activity. These Notes, which appear prominently at the top of a user’s inbox and profile picture, would provide a glimpse into the user’s current musical taste for anyone visiting their profile.
While Instagram has yet to officially confirm this feature, Paluzzi’s findings hint at a deeper integration between the social media platform and the popular music streaming service.
The concept of real-time music integration isn’t entirely new. Discord, a popular messenger app among gamers, already offers a similar feature. Even within Instagram, users can currently manually share their Spotify tracks on Stories or within Notes. Therefore, the idea of Instagram building upon this existing functionality isn’t far-fetched.
However, a key difference lies in user behavior. Unlike Discord, which users often keep open for extended periods, Instagram is primarily used for shorter bursts of browsing and sharing. This distinction raises questions about the potential value and adoption of real-time music integration within the Instagram ecosystem.
Keep in mind that the feature has only been spotted in Instagram’s code so it could be a while before it sees the light of the day.
