The Dubai Metro is preparing to celebrate its 15th anniversary. The iconic driverless train first began operating on September 9, 2009. As part of the celebration, the Metro plans to honor “Metro babies” — those born on the same date as the Metro’s launch.

In a Monday announcement, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) revealed that some Metro babies could receive academic sponsorships to pursue higher education.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Must be a UAE National
  • Born on September 9, 2009
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of over 90%

Additionally, Metro babies born between 2009 and 2023 are invited to a celebration at Legoland Dubai on September 21, 2024.

15th Anniversary Celebrations:

  • UAE residents can enjoy musical performances by Emirati and international artists at Metro stations from September 21 to 27.
  • Discounted Nol cards will be awarded to 5,000 winners who discover a special code on limited-edition Metro-shaped ice cream sticks.
  • The celebration will also feature Metro-related souvenirs, limited-edition postage stamps, and special Nol cards with designs by Lego Dubai.
